Ikula – means “they grow” and is part of a Zambian saying that means “small trees will someday make a forest.”
GLOW Zambia is a non-profit supporting the education of girls orphaned by AIDS in rural Zambia.
GLOW stands for Girls Leading Our World, and is part of a larger organization that promotes grass-roots education and community development in impoverished parts of the world. By making sure these girls make it through 12th grade and are able to care for themselves and their families, we can make a small but important difference in one of the most AIDS-stricken countries in the world.
GLOW organizations around the world work on the ground directly with disadvantaged girls and their GLOW Mentor, a female role model within the community, to assess their needs and create solutions together. In addition to helping pay for school, GLOW Zambia works hand in hand with the girls to start income-generating activities and teach life skills such to foster self-sufficiency.
That’s what’s up!
