The Holy Ghost duo out of NYC came through SF several weeks back to play at the Fillmore in support of their "Static on the Wire" EP. They jammed alongside labelmates, and friends, LCD soundsystem for a sold out show [mind you, people were scalping tickets for up to $150 a pop!] We were able to exchange some questions with the guys via the Interwebs, and below are their responses. Check out more of their music here...
If you could go on the road with only one of these synths, which would it be: Juno 106, Oberheim OB12, Moog Voyager, or Prophet 5?
Wait a second...You mean in a pretend world where synths would be stable and/or in a world (like 1980) where you traveled with a tech just for the synths and a backup? Because you know the voyahger is stable but the prophet is not! It hates the road. The prophet always wants to stay home. Its a spoiled little thing. But yeah, I'd love to tour with a real prophet 5 3.3 rev ( midi version, last one made) if they could handle the road. Its a very versatile synth and its polyphonic, unlike the voyager. Touring with a mono synth as your only synth would be, er, limiting. No offense to the voager, she's great. We actually use alot of the Dave Smith stuff ( original designer of the prophet) - his new stuff - on stage now. Basically every synth on stage is a Dave Smith stage like the Tetra or the Mofo - they are phenomenal analog synths being made now that actually handle the road.
If you could create a musical instrument, what would it be, and what would you name it?
A polyphonic modular synth that allowed you up to 8 notes of polyphony. Nicks working on it.
What will it take for the NY Knicks to be form a solid organization?
Lebron. (interview took place before Lebron's decision to play for Miami)
Which cities are you looking forward to playing/visiting most on your spring/summer 2010 tour?
Calvi on The Rocks festival in Corsica is something we look forward to all year. But it is all interesting to me.
NY style pizza, or Chicago deep dish pizza?
Are you really asking that?! NY !
